Defending champion Xu Yanwei of China sailed to the victory of the women's
50m freestyle at the 15th Asian Games in Doha on Tuesday.
Xu led the pack from start to finish before she won in 25.23 seconds. She had
swam the fastest 50m split in the 4x100m free relay on Sunday when China took
the gold. She also had a silver in the 100m butterfly on Saturday.
"I am happy with the gold because I did not expect the victory," said Xu, who
had a surprise gold haul of five in the Busan Asian Games four years ago.
This time in Doha, she also entered for five events. She will compete in the
100m free and 50 fly events.
Pang Jiaying, the 200 free champion here on Saturday, came second in 25.84 to
give China a one-two finish while Kaori Yamada from Japan was third in
26.01.
