All-mighty Chinese team of table tennis suffered its first casualty at the Asian Games here on Tuesday as the mixed doubles duo Ma Long and Guo Yan were ousted at the quarter-finals with a 3-2 defeat to their South Korea opponents.

Other matches saw all Chinese paddlers making it through into the semifinals of individual events, including Ma Lin and Wang Nan, who easily crushed Hong Kong duo Ko Lai Chak and Zhang Rui 3-1 andset up a mixed doubles semifinal match up with South Korean pair Joo Sae Hyuk and Kim Kyung Ah.

The newly paired-up Ma and Guo were beaten 11-7, 11-13, 11-9, 9-11 and 12-10 by Lee Jong Woo and Lee Eun Hee in the morning after Ma sent a receive into the net.

"At the end of the match, I moved back too far away from the table and granted the opponents a 11-10 lead, and for the match point, we just lost the control," commented the 18-year-old Ma, who is making his debut in the Asiad and paired up with Guo Yan for the first time.

"Also we were too much intimated by the tense of the game," he added.

Guo Yan echoed: "We missed several good chances and we need more time to improve our teamwork."

The Korean pair of Lees will next face Singapore's Yang Zi and Li Jia Wei, who knocked out Hong Kong pair Li Ching and Tie Yana, 2-11, 4-11, 11-8, 11-8, 11-2.

In the evening singles games, Ma Lin and Wang Hao each met fierce resistance from their quarter-final rivals before both winning 4-2. They will meet Hong Kong's Li Ching and Olympic champion Ryu Seung Min from South Korea in the semifinals.

China's ace paddler Wang Nan romped into the women's singles semifinals by kicking out South Korean defensive player Kim Kyung Ah in straight sets.

"We have met each other a lot of times and I know exactly how she plays," said Wang.

Wang took the game 11-7, 11-7, 11-6, 12-10 with patient play and she will next play Tie Yana of Hong Kong, who overcame Japan'stop paddler Ai Fukuhara 5-11, 11-9, 13-15, 11-8, 11-8, 7-11, 11-8.

"Kim is a very tenacious player, so I keep very concentrated," said Wang, who had won three matches in the women's singles round of 16, doubles and mixed doubles early in the day.

"Right now, I just start to feel a bit tired," said the 28-year-old.

China's teenage paddler Guo Yue also reached the singles semifinals with a 4-0 win over Kim Mi Yong of DPR Korea and will face Olympic semifinalist Li Jia Wei, who beat South Korean Kwak Bang Bang 3-0 in a clash of two former Chinese.

In the men's doubles, Hong Kong's Ko Lai Chak/Li Ching and Chinese Taipei's Chiang Peng Lung/Chuang Chih Yuan made it to the semifinals, in which they will take on Olympic champions Ma Lin/Chen Qi and Ma Long/Wang Hao.

The women's doubles semifinal berths went to Wang Nan/Chen Qing and Guo Yue/Li Xiaoxia, both of China, Chinese Taipei's Huang Yi Hua/Lu Yun Feng, and Hong Kong's Tie Yana and Zhang Rui.
