Thai tennis star and defending champion Paradorn Srichaphan said on
Tuesday that he will speak to his team before making his decision on whether to
withdraw from the men's singles tennis event at the 15th Asian Games.
The world No. 53 was forced to retire from his singles match in the men's
team quarterfinal against Uzbekistan on Tuesday due to a wrist injury.
"My wrist was giving me problems. It's an injured tendon. It was hurting when
I hit the ball," said the 27-year-old, who played just 33 minutes before
quitting the match.
He lost the first set in 26 minutes 6-3 to Uzbekistan's Denis Istomin and
retired six minutes into the second set when he was lagging two games to nil.
"My doctor in Thailand told me to take a few weeks off from playing and I had
very little time before coming here.
"There is no point in risking it. I am very disappointed. I might have to
withdraw from the singles. I'll have to talk to my team and make a decision on
what to do in the next few days," he added.
Srichaphan is one of the high-profile tennis players at the Doha Games, and
only decided to enter a few weeks before the competition kicked off.
