Seeded singles shuttlers all reach last 16

All the seeded singles shuttlers advanced into the last 16 in Doha on Wednesday at the 15th Doha Asian Games.

In the men's singles round of 32, third-seeded Bao Chunlai from China, defeated Mongolian Davaasuren Battur 21-11, 21-4 to take on Singaporean Ronald Susilo, who defeated Tarek Shalhoum from Syria 21-5, 21-4.

Bao only spent 12 minutes to finish off his opponent. The 23-year-old clinched a clear win in the decisive game on Tuesday, enabling China to overcome defending champion South Korea in the men's team final.

Indonesian top player Taufik Hidayat, seeded No. 7, triumphed over Vietnamese Nguyen Hoang Hai 21-18, 21-13. Taufik's next rivalis South Korean Park Sung Hwan.

Fourth-seeded Lee Hyun Il of South Korea, fifth-seeded Hashim Muhammad from Malaysia and Thailand's sixth-seeded Boonsak Ponsanaall knocked off their opponents in straight sets.

The eighth-seeded Ng Wei from Hong Kong of China eliminated amateur player Lam Chi Man from Macao of China 21-16, 21-19 on Tuesday.

The top two seeds Lin Dan of China and Lee Chong Wei of Malaysia, who had byes in the first round, are slated to meet Thai Poompat Sapkulchananart and Japanese Shoji Sa Wednesday evening.

In the women's singles, eight seeds are going to meet lower-ranked shuttlers in the second round Wednesday evening.

World number one Zhang Ning of China is pitted against Indonesian Fransiska Ratnasari. Zhang's teammate, world number two Xie Xingfang, faces Salakjit Ponsana from Thailand.
