Wang Chengyi, the bronze medalist of the Athens Olympic Games, was crowned
in women's 50m rifle three positions at the 15th Asiad here on Wednesday.
Wang, trailing Kazak Olga Dovgun with one point after the qualification
round, collected 100.4 points in the 10-shot final round, the
second highest score of the final, and claimed the title in her Asiad debut.
"Normally we don't check the others' scores and rankings after the
qualification round, but one of my teammates told me the results incautiously."
said Wang.
"However, it was good that I knew the one-point deficit," she said. "That
gave me more confidence to catch up with the leader and win the title."
Wang's total score was 685.4 points. Dovgun finished with a total of 682.3
points, followed by South Korea's Na Yoon Kyung with 680.2 points.
Wang, the bronze medalist of the prone event on Monday, said that was a pity
she didn't win the prone title: "I finished the same score with the gold and
silver medalist, but only got a bronze medal as the rankings were decided round
by round."
