Li Tao brought Singapore the first swimming gold at the Doha Asian Games
here on Thursday, the last day of the event, as she emerged as the surprise
winner of the 50mbutterfly.
Li was off to a quick start with the fastest reaction time of 0.71 seconds
before she charged to the win in 26.73.
The 16-year-old, born in China, bagged a bronze in 100m fly Saturday.
Xu Yanwei from China was pushed to the second in 26.95 after she claimed 50m
and 100m freestyle as well as 4x100m free relay here.
Yuka Kato of Japan was third with 0.25 off the pace.
Asian record holder Zhou Yafei from China missed podium after she lifted two
titles in 100m fly and 4x100m medley relay.
The 22-year-old helped her team to the third-place finish in the 4x200m free
relay at last year's world championships in Montreal where she was a finalist in
100m fly.
