Japan reaches women's final at Asiad hockey

Japan reached the women's hockey final with a 2-0 win over India at the Doha
Asian Games on Saturday. Japan's last final at Asiad is 12 years ago, and
they will face either China or South Korea in the final. China recovered from
their 3-0 loss to South Korea on Friday to defeat Chinese Taipei 7-0. Ma Yibo
converted all three penalties in the first half, building up a 3-0 lead over
their opponents. The other goals of the game came from Ren Ye with two, with
Li Hongxia and Chen Qiuqi contributing one apiece. Japan kept their unbeaten
run in the tournament, and secured their place in the Games' final match after
their 2-0 victory. Kaori Chiba and Tomomi Komori scored for Japan in the
first ten minutes of play to settle the game. Chiba is now the leading scorer in
the women's competition with eight goals. In the last game of the day, South
Korea defeated Malaysia 4-0. Kim Mi Seon scored in the first minute while Park
Mi Hyun, Kang Na Young and Choi Eun Young also got their names on the score
sheet for South Korea. Malaysia were more organized in the second half,
creating a number of chances, but South Korea still managed to score one more
goal. South Korean and China need to battle another game for the other final
slot.
