Olympic champion Luo shines, South Korea still strong

South Korea dominated the taekwondo competition at Doha Asiad on Saturday
while the Olympic champion Luo Wei of China showed her power and flexibility to
clinch the gold medal in the women's 72kg division. South Korea took two gold
medals through Kim Ju Young in the men's 62kg and Kim Bo Hye in the women's
55kg. "I'm happy because I was rewarded with a gold medal after six months of
training, which was very helpful. I had to win with a very strong
determination," Kim Ju Young said. "So far South Korea has done very well in
taekwondo. I want all the remaining South Korea taekwondo players to win the
gold medals, " Kim Bo Hye said. Go Tshomlee of Philippines grabbed the silver
in the men's 62kg while the bronze medals went to Vu Anh Tuan of Vietnam and Su
Tai Yuan of Chinese Taipei. Beaten by Kim Bo Hye, Hoang Ha Giang from Vietnam
won the silver and the bronze medal was shared by Cosette Basbous from Lebanon
and Saule Sardarova from Kazakhstan. After three days' competition, South
Korea captured six gold, one silver and one bronze medals from nine
competitions. China followed with two gold, one silver and one bronze. Chinese
Taipei took the third with one gold, two silver and three bronze. Olympic
Champion Luo Wei won the second gold medal in this sport for China at the Doha
Asiad as she beat Alaa Kutkut of Jordan 1-0 in the women's 72kg final. Luo,
23, overcame Yang Wen Chen from Chinese Taipei in the quarterfinal and Lee In
Jong from South Korea in the semifinal. Mahroz Sae Bonehkohal of Iran and Lee
In Jong of South Korea took the bronze medals. "Kutkut's attack was a little
bit different from the others, so I tried to avoid being hurt by her," Luo said
after the competition. "My mind was very clear during the games and I also
think my strategy was very good. I want to thank my coach," she
added. Yossef Karami of Iran, bronze medallist in the 2005 worlds, snatched
the men 's 84kg division title, beating Park Kyeong Hoon of South Korea 4-3 in
the final. The bronze medal was shared by Arman Chilmanov of
Kazakhstan and Shokirjon Rajabov of Tajikistan. "I'm happy to win against
South Korea. Park is a very good fighter and he never goes backwards," said
Karami.
