Two extra-time goals gifted DPR Korea 3-1 win over China in the women's
soccer semifinal at the Doha Asian Games yesterday.
DPR Korea controlled the game from the very beginning, but it was China who
scored first. Chinese midfielder Wang Dandan powered the ball home from a cross
at the 10th minute.
But DPR Korean Kil Son Hui tied the score in the 21st minute with a
goal-mouth tap. Then, DPR Korea squandered several scoring chances in front of
the well-organized Chinese defense.
After the interval, China played more actively in attacking, but both sides
failed to score any more.
China's defense collapsed during extra time and DPR Korea scored twice in
five minutes. Ri Kum Suk first scored on 94 minutes, followed by the goal from
Ri Un Gyong at the 99th minute.
Chinese goalkeeper Zhang Yanru was sent out for pulling down a DPR Korean
player outside the box in the 112th minute.
Earlier in the day, Japan beat South Korea 3-1 in the regular time and
advanced to the final.
The first half saw a balanced game, and both sides failed to score. After the
interval, Japan got a early lead when defender Iwashimizu Azusa headed the ball
into net in the 47th minute.
Japan gradually controlled game and scored twice in 10 minutes with goals
from midfielder Yanagita Miyuki in 72nd minute and forward Nagasato Yuki in 82nd
minute.
Though South Korean forward Park Hee Young scored in 89th minute, but it was
too late.
China will play with South Korea for the bronze medal while Japan and DPR
Korea will compete in the final on Dec. 13.
