China eases into women's volleyball final

Defending champion China breezed pastChinese Taipei 3-0 in the semi-final of the women's volleyball of Doha Asiad here on Sunday.

It took the Olympic and World Cup dual champion China less thanone hour to wrap up the match 25-17, 25-13 and 25-17 with a superbdisplay of serve and volley game.

The two teams have met in preliminaries when China beat ChineseTaipei in straight sets.

Chinese Taipei, who is on high spirit after a hard 3-2 win overthe much-taller Kazakhstan in semifinal, started the opening set strongly to take a 1-1, 2-2 tie with China.

However, China's ace spikers Wang Yimei and Xu Yunli broke the tie with fatal spikes, helping the team take the lead from 8-3 to 24-15. Chinese Taipei saved two set points, but their spiking error put them go down 17-25.

Chinese Taipei came back in the second set and took a 5-2, 6-3 lead but China steadily held the advantage over the net and made it two to nil 25-13 with powerful spike of Wang Yimei.

With two sets in hand, China totally crashed Chinese Taipei's hope and led at 8-3 in the third set. With a vigorously spike fromleft side of the net by Wang Yimei, China won the semi-final 25-17in the set.

China will face the winner of the match between Japan and Thailand, which will be held later on Sunday, in Tuesday's final.
