The men's beach volleyball final willbe an all-China affair, while the
Chinese women will meet the Japanese in the women's gold medal match at the 15th
Asian Games on Monday.
In the face-off of two China-Indonesia semifinals on Sunday, Chinese top
seeds Wu Penggen and Xu Linyin, and the fourth seeds Zhou Shun and Li Jian, both
experienced tough three-set matches before winning over their Indonesian
opponents, namely, ArdiyansahAndy and Darkuncoro Koko Prasetyo and Salim Agus
and Supriadi Supriadi respectively.
"It's a new record of the Chinese men's beach volleyball team. We have taken
a gold medal in 1998 Bangkok Asiad and a bronze in Busan. I'm proud of my
players," said Miao Zhihong, head coach of the Chinese teams.
The two Chinese pairings will fight for their first Asiad titleon Monday.
They have met in the preliminary round 4 when the top seeds beat their
compatriots 21-14, 21-16.
"We will go all out in the decider though they are ranked the world's sixth
and have more experiences than us," said Zhou Shun.
"We are very familiar with each others and we know the weaknessof each others
well. So performance at the court decides the result," said Wu Penggen.
For the women part, Chinese second seeds Xue Chen and Zhang Xi sailed in the
final after a surprisingly come-from-back win over their much-experienced team
mates Wang Jie and Tian Jia, top seedsof the tournament and also the world's
second rankers, in the semifinal on Sunday.
The young Chinese duo, 17-year-old Xue and 21-year-old Zhang, will face the
third-seeded Tanaka Shinako and Koizumi Eiko of Japan in the final on Monday.
The latter harvested a hard 2-1 win over Thai pairing Kulna Kamoltip and Sannok
Jarunee in the semifinal.
Zhang and Xue lost to their Japanese rivals 20-22, 21-15, 17-19in preliminary
Round 3.
"We want to win. We will try our best. We will not give them second chance
(to beat us)," said Xue.
