The men's hockey game between Bangladesh and Oman fell into a battle at
the Doha Asian Games on Sunday.
Bangladesh scored twice in the final four minutes to beat Oman 5-3 for the
fourth in pool B.
Then the game spiraled out of control in the final stages as players confront
each other, with the final whistle heralding an attack on both the opposition
and the umpires by a number of Omani players.
Security officials rushed from all corners of the ground to pull players
apart while a Bangladeshi player had to be stretched off.
"We played well today at the same level as the Bangladesh team. I think the
attack was all due to the pressure of the game," said Omani player Khalid Said
Al Nofli.
Oman's coach Mohy Zaghloul attributed the conflict to pressure and unjust
judgments of umpires.
"We played well, we are happy that we were on the same level as Bangladesh.
It's all because of the pressure. The players were nervous and the referees
didn't do their job well. They were supporting the Bangladesh team," said
Zaghloul.
