Chinese diving diva Guo Jingjing has become the most successful female diver
in Asian Games history after she took the women's 3-meter synchronized
springboard at the15th Asian Games in Doha on Monday.
Guo and Li Ting easily lifted the title by totaling 337.80 points, more than
50 points over their closest Japanese rivals.
Guo, current world and Olympic champion in both individual and synchronized
3m springboard, already has three golds from the previous Asian Games, including
one in the 3m springboard synchronized, won with former partner Wu Minxia at the
2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea.
With her new victory in the synchronized on Monday, she has surpassed the
former diving queen Gao Min as the most successful female diver in Asian Games
history.
"I have never thought about beating any record," said the 25-year-old Guo. "I
think the Asian Games means a lot to us."
In her third Asian Games, Guo will not defend her 3m springboard title.
"I don't feel sorry for giving up a third consecutive title. I have competed
a lot this year and I need a rest. I'd like younger teammates to have more
chance."
Guo said she will prepare for the 2006 world championships in March in
Melbourne, Australia. "We have less than three months to go for the worlds, I
hope to defend my titles there," Guo said.
