Chinese Asiad delegation aims at no doping case
12/12/2006 10:27

The Chinese Asiad delegation hoped that none of the Chinese athletes was involved in doping scandal, the delegation spokesman said in Doha on Monday.

"I know that there has been four doping cases so far at the Doha Asian Games," said Zhang Haifeng, "but no Chinese athlete is involved and I hope there won't be any in the future."

Myanmar's Oo Mya Sanda was stripped of her silver medal in 75kgweightlifting after testing positive in the Asian Games, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) said here on Monday.

This is the fourth doping case at the Games and the second from Myanmar. All the four cases came from weightlifting.

"Although I don't know the exact number of tested Chinese athletes at the Asiad until now, I'm sure that the number is over 100. Because China has collected more than 100 golds, and all the gold medalists need to be tested."

Zhang said that the Chinese delegation kept a clean sheet in doping at the 2002 Busan Asian Games and he expected it was the same in Doha.
