Chinese divers started a war between themselves in the men's and women's
1-meters springboard at the Asian Games in Doha on Tuesday.
The men's and women's 1m springboard were being held for the first time since
the 1990 Asian Games in Beijing.
Pre-meet favorite Luo Yutong, titlist in the 1m and 3m springboard at the
2005 East Asian Games in Macau, China and silver medalist of the 2006 World Cup
in Changshu, China, proved he was the best of the field by scoring 466.10
points, beating his teammate Qin Kai to the second place in 439.90.
Japanese veteran Ken Terauchi came third in 419.75.
Luo, 21, said: "I just turned my event from the platform to springboard. I
did not have pressure and did not think about rivals and scores during the
competition."
With the absence of world and Olympic champion Guo Jingjing, Chinese female
diver Wu Minxia met a strong challenge from her teammate He Zi, a rookie in the
women's 1m springboard.
The 16-year-old He Zi led the first two rounds before Wu came back to secure
the title in 317.25. He Zi, who had the highest difficulty degrees among all the
divers, collected 312.30 for the silver.
Elizabeth Jimie and Leong Mun Yee of Malaysia's finished third and fourth.
Wu said: "He Zi is young and very competitive. What I did was to concentrate
on my dives."
The men's and women's 3m springboard will take place on Dec.
