Chinese trampolinists finished one-two in men's individual trampoline final
at the Doha Asian Games on Tuesday.
Que Zhicheng earned the highest score of 39.50 points to capture the gold
medal. Que performed an impressive height from the trampoline, maintaining
amplitude and showing powerful twists.
"I displayed the same set of routine in all finals, so I have a high
stability and high degree of difficulty," said Que Zhicheng.
"We defeated Japanese trampolinists for the first time since the Athens
Olympic Games, and I get my confidence strengthened."
"My routine is very competitive, for it's among the difficult ones, but my
movement in air is not as good as the Japanese gymnasts." Que added.
Que qualified as the second best finisher a day earlier after his teammate Lu
Chenglong, who pocketed the silver on 39.10 points.
"It's a surprise to finish first in qualification. I felt some pressure in
final, but I think the silver is not a regret for me. Que is in a little higher
level than me," said Lu.
Chinese men's team coach Hu Xinggang set their target on reaching top eight
at world championships.
Shunsuke Nagasaki of Japan was third on 38.80.
World No. 1 Yasuhiro Ueyama, who won gold at the World Cup final in
Birmingham in November, faltered to score 38.40 after a routine of a few
mistakes.
Que has the highest degree of difficulty for his routine, a 16.7, with
teammate Lu on 15.7, Ueyama and Nagasaki with only 15.5.
Qualification round required two routines, one set and one voluntary with
10-skills apiece. Scores from qualification do not carry over into the final.
Gymnasts have one shot at a medal when they perform their voluntary routines
which have no set requirements in final.
