DPR Korea beat Japan 4-2 in the penalty shoot-out after a scoreless regular
and overtime to win the gold medal of the women's soccer tournament at the Doha
Asian Games in Doha on Wednesday.
During a balanced first half, DPR Korea focused on attack and tried to score
first but had few chances to shot on goal, while the Japanese players also
pressed hard but were vain in their scoring attempts.
DPR Korea almost broke the deadlock before the end of the first half with two
powerful shots, which narrowly missed the target.
The second half went on smoothly with attacks from both sides and neither of
them had created any real chances until 11th minutes into extra time when
Japanese Ohno Shinobu found the net with her header, which was ruled off-side.
In the bronze medal match, China defeated South Korea 2-0 as midfielder Wang
Kun scored twice.
China's opener came in the 40th minute when Wang swung her header into the
lower left net. She found the target again in the66th minute off a cross from
defender Liu Huana.
