The Golden Globes, the international awards ceremony for films, drama and
actors, was held in Los Angeles last night.
Hollywood legend Meryl Streep and
former "American Idol" finalist Jennifer Hudson became early winners at the 64th
Golden Globe Awards ceremony.
Streep was awarded best actress in the comedy or musical motion picture
category with "The Devil Wears Prada," and Hudson won the award for best
supporting actress in a motion picture for her part in "Dreamgirls."
The film "Babel" had led the list of nominees, with seven nominations for
best drama, best screenplay, best original score, best supporting actress, best
director and best supporting actor. As expected, "Babel" won best drama. But the
other winner to top the Globes was "Dreamgirls", named best musical or comedy.
Helen Mirren was named 'best drama actress' for "The Queen", Forest Whitaker
best actor for "The Last King of Scotland", Martin Scorsese best director for
"The Departed". The best animated film was "Cars", and the best original song
"The Song of the Heart" from "Happy Feet".
In the TV section, the best series drama was "Grey's Anatomy," with Kyra
Sedgwick named best actress for the drama "The Closer", Hugh Laurie named best
actor for the drama "House" and the best series, musical or comedy "Ugly Betty".
America Ferrera was named best actress in a musical or comedy for her role in
"Ugly Betty". Alec Baldwin was named best actor in a musical or comedy in "30
Rock". In the mini-series section, Helen Mirren as "Elizabeth I" was named best
actress, with Bill Nighy named best actor for "Gideon's Daughter".
