As many as 35 youths from 14 countries are taking part in an Asian Young
Leaders Climate Forum in Bogor, south of Indonesian capital city Jakarta, from
December 3 to 6, to prepare them for participation in the 13th Conference of
Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in
Bali.
"In this forum, we inform and inspire them on mitigation of climate change,
and engage participants with young leaders from other countries and different
backgrounds," Antara news agency quoted Director for Learning and Creativity of
the British Council Christopher Palmer as saying yesterday.
The forum is being held by the British Council in cooperation with the Center
for International Forestry Research (Cifor) and the World Wild Fund (WWF)
Indonesia. Participants of the forum came from various backgrounds and include
academicians, professionals and non governmental organization activists.
"The British Council is not specialized in climate change, but we have done
many things related to youths. This forum is our support for mitigation of
climate change," he said.
The forum, he said, aims to create an opportunity for youths to draw up a
strategy in mitigation of climate change that would be presented to the UNFCCC
forum in Bali and implemented in concrete action in their respective
neighborhood.
Out of the 35 participants, six would be chosen to take part in the UNFCCC
forum from December 8-10.
Participants in the forum came from Indonesia, Australia, China, India,
Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Chinese
Taiwan, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam.
