No. 9 seeded Slovakian Deniela Hantuchova eased into the women's singles
semifinals of the Australian Open by beating Polish Agnieszka Radwanska in
straight sets today.
Hantuchova totally controlled the match with her powerful serve and ground
strokes during the one hour 27 minutes match and won by 6-2, 6-2.
This is the first time for the Slovakian to enter semifinals of any Grand
Slam. "It means a lot. I guess I had to get through all the tough times and get
experience in order to be able to get to this stage," said Hantuchova.
After leading 5-1, Hantuchova had six break points in the seventh game but
Radwanska came back to hold serve. But an unstoppable Hantuchova finally took
the first set in her own serve game.
Hantuchova continued her winning momentum in the second set as she broke
early in the set and again in the fifth set.
Radwanska tried to fight back in the seventh game but her hope was dashed
when the in-form Hantuchova closed out the match with a forehand score.
"It definitely was a tough match," said Hantuchova. "I really had to play
well in order to get that score.
"I was real proud how I handled the situation. I felt like I had a great
opportunity to win this match, but I still had to go out there and play my best,
which I think I did at times." said Hantuchova.
