German Chancellor Gerhard Schroederon Wednesday discussed with Russian
President Vladimir Putin on Ukraine's presidential elections.
Schroeder expressed in a telephone call with Putin his concerns over the
situation in the Ukraine, said spokesman of German government Thomas Steg in
Berlin.
The two leaders agreed that the conflict over the presidential election must
be resolved in the framework of Ukrainian laws and a peaceful solution must be
found, the spokesman said.
Schroeder also talked with Polish President Aleksander Kwasniewski on the
situation in Ukraine per telephone on the same day.
"Let us help together so that the situation doesn't become out of control,"
said Schroeder.
German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer stressed that everything must be done
to conduct a review of the election in Ukraine.
It is necessary that the free will of the majority be expressedin the final
result, he noted.
Ukraine's Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovich has won the country's presidential
elections, the central election commission announced Wednesday.
