Ukraine's Central Bank chief, Serhiy Tyhypko, said Monday he had resigned
in order to fully engage in the presidential campaign of Prime Minister Viktor
Yanukovich.
Tyhypko, who had taken leave from his work since the summer to head the
presidential campaign of Yanukovich, told a press conference that he resigned as
the central bank chairman because he believed "it is impossible to combine the
jobs of central bank chairman and party chief."
Tyhypko heads the Trudova Ukraine party, which supports both Yanukovich and
outgoing President Leonid Kuchma.
On Sunday, President Kuchma ordered him to end his leave and go to work
Monday.
