The new Ukrainian administration led by Victor Yushchenko will endeavor to boost ties with Russia, a representative of Yushchenko said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

The new administration will seek to boost cooperation with Russia in such fields as energy and economy within the framework of the Ukrainian and Russian friendship and cooperation treaty, said Yushchenko's campaign manager, Oleksander Zinchenko.

Ukraine's new administration will play an active role in improving the mode of energy cooperation with Russia so as to solve the problems which emerged in the field in recent years, said Zinchenko.

He added that Ukraine will continue to hold discussions with Russia concerning economic integration among Ukraine, Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan, while focusing on the impact of such integration on Ukraine's accession to the World Trade Organization(WTO) and its status as a recognized market economy.

The campaign manager also said 2007 marks the 10th anniversary of the Ukrainian-Russian friendship and cooperation treaty. Now that nearly 10 years have past, relevant revisions should be made in the treaty to adapt to the changes, he added.

Zinchenko stressed that Ukraine calls on Russia to avoid subjectivism in developing ties with Ukraine, adding that his country is to adopt a predictable and progressive policy toward improving ties with Russia, while trying not to be influenced by others in its policy making.

Opposition candidate Yushchenko won the rerun presidential run-off Monday by about eight percentage points over Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych, according to the country's Central Election Commission.
