Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych has appealed to the electoral
authorities against alleged violations during the re-run of presidential
election, theInterfax news agency reported Wednesday.
The appeal was submitted to the Central Election Commission CEC)at 23:30
local time (2130 GMT) by Yanukovych's representative at the CEC Nestor Shufrich,
the CEC press service said Wednesday.
The press service said that a documentary proof in 27 volumes is attached to
the appeal and the CEC is taking preliminary consideration over Yanukovych's
complaint.
The CEC on Tuesday released a preliminary results of the Sunday's revote of
presidential run-off, according to which Yanukovych'srival, opposition leader
Viktor Yushchenko won 51.99 percent of the vote while Yanukovych got 44.19
percent.
Yanukovych has refused to concede defeat and said he will appeal to the
Supreme Court in a bid to overturn the result.
Some 12,000 foreign observers monitored the vote process. The Organization
for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) and other western election
monitors have declared the December 26 ballot largely free and fair, and
approaching international standards.
However, monitors from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and
Russia said there were numerous irregularities in the ballot.
