4/1/2005 23:56

The Russian Foreign Ministry on Tuesday expressed hope that real chances will be emerged after thePalestinian presidential election for the resumption of a meaningful dialogue between Palestinians and the Israeli authorities, the Itar-Tass news agency reported.

Russia hopes "there will appear chances after the election for the resumption of dialogue with the view of making concrete mutualsteps that meet the interests of both parties to stop violence andnormalize the situation, as well as for resuming the implementation of all the provisions of the 'road map' peace plan," a foreign ministry official said.

Russia, as the whole international community "attaches much significance to the upcoming election to the Palestinian National Administration, which, as we are hoping, will enable the new leadership to receive a clear mandate from the Palestinian people for implementing democratic reforms and stopping acts of terror," the diplomat said.

He noted the success of the election campaign will depend on the implementation on the accords between Palestinians and Israelis on the key points of the election.

Moscow assumes that the group of four international mediators will be playing an effective role in the process of monitoring thePalestinian election due on Jan. 9, the report said.

On invitation of the Palestinian center election committee Russian group consisting of representatives of the parliament and the foreign ministry will observe the election process in Palestinian territory on Jan. 6-12.
