As part of his election campaign,Palestine Liberation Organization chief
Mahmoud Abbas visited onThursday the northern West Bank town of Jenin and met
with localleaders, Palestinian official sources said.
Abbas met with al Aqsa Brigade commander in northern West Bank,Zakariya
al-Zubeidi, and leaders and activists of the mainstreamFatah movement.
During the meeting, Abbas said the Palestinians will continuethe path of late
leader Yasser Arafat and will not give up thePalestinians' rights.
Meanwhile, a Fatah activist said on condition of anonymity thatAbbas' meeting
with al-Zubeidi was positive, and the two men agreedto carry on Arafat's cause.
The Palestinian elections will be held on Jan. 9, 2005 to choosea new
chairman of the Palestinian National Authority.
