12/1/2005 19:31

A senior official of the Palestinian mainstream Fatah movement called on the Islamic Resistance Movement(Hamas) on Wednesday to end media incitements against Sunday's presidential election.

"We are astonished by all the programmed criticisms and suspicions about the presidential election," Rashid Abu Shback, senior Fatah member and chief of the Palestinian preventive security apparatus, told reporters,

Abu Shback urged Hamas and other Islamic groups to stop shootingcriticisms on Sunday's election which chose the Palestinian moderate leader Mahmoud Abbas to succeed late chairman of the Palestinian Authority Yasser Arafat.

Fatah and Hamas have reached an agreement to end the escalation of media attack during and after the presidential election, he added.

Hamas, along with the Islamic Jihad (Holy War) Movement, has boycotted the election, terming it as "incomprehensive" under the Israeli occupation.

Abu Shback also said the next meetings with Hamas will focus on the legislative elections scheduled for July 17.
