Canada tightens security after London blasts
8/7/2005 9:42
Security has been tightened for all transportation systems across Canada in
the wake of the British attacks, Canada's Public Safety Minister Anne McLellan
said Thursday. Four explosions rocked the London subway and tore open a
packed double-decker bus during the morning rush hour Thursday, at least 40
people were killed and 700 injured. "There is no specific threat to Canada or
Canadians at this time, but you have to be prepared, you have to take all
precautionary measures," McLellan told reporters in Edmonton, capital of
Canada's western province of Alberta. Canadian Prime Minister Paul Martin,
who is in Scotland attending the Group of Eight summit, issued a statement
Thursday condemning the explosion in London and pledged full support for a war
on terror. There have been no reports of Canadian casualities in the attacks
in London.
