The Dutch state is not taking any extra security measures for the moment, in
response to the explosions in London, the Dutch newspaper Volkskrant reported on
Thursday. Local authorities, harbors and airports, however, were on extra
alert on Thursday, the paper said, with measures including tighter security at
Schiphol Airport around arrivals from Britain. British institutions in the
Netherlands were already on high alert and will remain so, the newspaper
Volkskrant said. It said the Dutch authorities were receiving information
from Britain and monitoring the situation, the paper said. Dutch Prime
Minister Jan Peter Balkenende was quoted by the NOS broadcasting organization as
saying that the G8 summit in Gleneagles, Scotland should continue despite the
disaster. He said that the Dutch cabinet and population sympathized greatly
with all those affected by these abominable acts of terror, adding that the
explosions were further proof continuous, intensive attention is necessary in
the war on terror.
