Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia condemned the bomb attacks in London
Thursday that killed at least 40 people so far. In a condolence message to
British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Zia said, "I am deeply shocked and grieved to
learn about the explosions across London. Bangladesh strongly condemns this
mindless criminal act against innocent people," The Independent reported on
Friday. She reaffirmed that Bangladesh is opposed to all acts of terrorism
and hoped that the perpetrators of this violent act would be brought to
justice. The Bangladeshi prime minister conveyed deep sympathies to the
victims and condolences to the bereaved families on behalf of her government and
people of Bangladesh. She also hoped that the people of Britain would face
the situation with calm and courage. "This tragic event should strengthen the
resolve of our nations to work together in fighting the menace of terrorism,"
said the PM about the terrible explosions, which took place while world's most
powerful leaders were holding G8 summit in Britain. According to Bangladesh's
privated news agency UNB, no Bangladeshis were reported dead or injured till
Thusday night. "We're in touch with our High Commission and hospital to get
the news of any fatality from the Bangladeshi community," UNB correspondent
Shafique in London told UNB over phone. Apart from east London, many
Bangladeshi immigrants live in areas around the King's Cross station where the
maximum casualties were reported, he said.
