India contributes US$5 million for Katrina victims

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has announced a US$5 million
contribution to the US Red Cross for relief and rehabilitation of the victims of
Hurricane Katrina, Indo-Asian News Service reports Saturday. Officials said
the prime minister had wanted to speak to US President George W. Bush over the
telephone on Friday but failed because Bush was traveling to disaster areas.
