Bush wins Kentucky, Indiana, Georgia; Kerry wins Vermont

US Republican presidential candidate George W. Bush claimed the first three
states of Indiana, Kentucky and Georgia in the 2004 elections on Tuesday,
winning a total of 34 electoral votes, CNN said, citing exit polls. Kerry won
Vermont with 3 electoral votes. The four states were among the first in the
nation to finish voting, with polling stations closing there at 7:00 p.m. (0000
GMT). A candidate needs a total of 270 electoral votes to win the
presidency.
