12/11/2004 16:23
Egypt on Friday tightened security around a military compound where late
Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat's funeral service would begin some three hours
later, a Xinhua correspondent said on the scene.
Police officers were
seen everywhere near the Al-Jalaa military compound, some 5 km away from the
Cairo International Airport, as journalists from around the world swarmed to the
place to cover the ceremony.
Arafat's body stayed at a military hospital
within the military compound overnight after being flown to Cairo late Thursday
from France.
The official funeral service is expected to begin at 11 a.m.
(0900 GMT), which will be attended by Arab and world leaders and representatives
from various countries and organizations.
