Six Australians died in the tsunamis that hit coasts of southern Asia last
Sunday, an official confirmed on Tuesday.
The dead included a three-year-old child from New South Wales and an
81-year-old woman, who was a permanent resident in Western Australia, Federal
Parliamentary Secretary for Foreign Affairs and Trade Bruce Billson told the
Nine Network TV.
Meanwhile, a Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade spokesman also said that
10 other Australians were still missing -- six in Thailand, one in Sri Lanka and
three in the Nicobar Islands of India.
He said at least 7,000 Australians are still in the tsunami-affected areas,
most of them in Thailand.
