The death toll of Sunday's tsunami tidal wave which hit west coastlines of Malaysia has risen to 63 at noon Tuesday, the Malaysian Control Center (MCC) of the police headquarters said.
A MCC spokesman said the tragedy also resulted in 183 people being injured and 26 others were reported as still missing as of Tuesday.
"Penang recorded 49 deaths, while there were 10 fatalities in Kedah, three in Perak and one in Selangor," he told reporters in Kuala Lumpur.
The tsunami, triggered by a massive earthquake in Indian Ocean near Indonesian island of Sumatra Sunday, struck several states on the country's west coast and Penang and Kedah states were the worst hit.
Of the total number of people injured, 108 cases were reported in Penang, 72 in Kedah and three in Perak. No injuries were reported in Selangor, according to the spokesman.
The search teams were still continuing operations to look for 26 victims who were still missing. Twenty-two of the missing victims were reported in Penang, three in Kedah and one in Perak. Those injured comprise 108 in Penang, 72 in Kedah and three in Perak.
The Malaysian Armed Forces have deployed two Nuri helicopters, 59 assault boats, 21 land vehicles and over 120 personnel to help the search and rescue operation for the tsunami victims.
