Kuwait to offer more aid to tsunami-hit countries

The Kuwaiti cabinet on Tuesday decided to offer an additional US$1 million
aid for southeast Asian countries in the wake of quake and tsunami, the official
KUNA news agency reported. Kuwaiti Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of
State for Cabinet and Parliament Affairs Mohammad Deifallah Sharar announced
that the sum is to be utilized by the Kuwait Red Crescent Society to dispatch
relief as soon as possible to alleviate the sufferings of thousands of victims
in the region. On Sunday, the Kuwaiti cabinet approved a donation of US$1
million to the tsunami-hit countries. According to preliminary statistics
from the affected region, the confirmed death toll reached 48,000, with
thousands still missing and many injured.
