29/12/2004 11:15

Forty-one Turkish citizens are still missing after Sunday morning's earthquake in southern Asia, the semi-official Anatolia news agency reported Tuesday.
Turkish authorities are still looking for 18 Turkish citizens in Thailand, six in Malaysia, six in India, three in Myanmar, three in Sri Lanka, two in Maldives, two in Singapore, and one Turk in Indonesia, who have been reported missing.
Ankara sent a plane on Monday to the Maldives to bring back Turks stranded in the region, including football celebrities Emre Asik and Umit Davala, who play respectively for Istanbul club Besiktas and Germany's Werder Bremen, as well as Suat Kaya, a coach at Galatasaray.
The plane was expected to return later on Tuesday.
The earthquake, measuring 8.7 on the Richter Scale, triggered devastating tsunamis, or tidal waves, in south and southeast Asia.
At least 50,000 people in Sri Lanka, India, Indonesia, Bangladesh, Maldives, Thailand and Malaysia have been killed in the disaster.
