Schumacher donate $10 million for tsunami aid effort

Formula One world champion Michael Schumacher topped donations by a long list of sports organizationsand personalities as he promised to donate 10 million US dollars for the South Asian tsunami aid effort on Tuesday.

The driver's manager Willi Weber announced his donation on a German television fundraising drive that on Tuesday evening received more than 34 million euros (46.2 million US dollars) in pledges.

Earlier in the day, the International Olympic Committee led theway, pledging 1 million US dollars, and further sports events are planned around the world to boost fundraising.

"It's so unfathomable and horrible what happened to so many people," Schumacher, who turned 36 on Monday, said in comments on his website. "One cannot simply blind it out. We're suffering with them."

Schumacher, driving for Ferrari, won his seventh F1 world titlelast year.
