Pakistan Cabinet to observe prayers day for Tsunami victims

The Pakistan Federal Cabinet decided on Wednesday to observe 'Youm-e-Dua' (prayers day) on Jan.7 to express the solidarity of Pakistani people with the tsunami victims of the south and southeast Asian countries.

The Cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Prime MinisterShaukat Aziz, also decided that the members of the Cabinet shall donate one day's salary to the "President's Relief Fund for the Tsunami Victims," according to an official statement.

The Cabinet was briefed about the relief efforts being undertaken by the Pakistan government under the prime minister's directive, which include dispatch of relief goods through two C-130 planes and two ships of Pakistan Navy to Sri Lank and Indonesia, the statement said.

Pakistani Army is also setting up two fields hospitals to provide medical facilities to the affectees of the disaster. Army engineers have also been dispatched to Indonesia and Sri Lanka to help in the restoration of infrastructure, the statement said.
