Macau Red Cross to collect US$4 million in tsunami donations

The Macau Red Cross, which has collected 25 million patacas (US$3 million) in
tsunami relief donations, expected that as the fund-raising is still going on,
the number could soon increase to some US$4 million. President of the Macau
Red Cross Eddie Wong Yue Kai said Friday that his organization has received more
than US$3 million to aid the tsunami victims adding that some US$1 million have
been sent to the Southeast Asia for relief work, namely for the purchase of
medicines and the rebuilding of homes. President of Las Vegas Sands William
P. Weider presented the company's cheque worth 2.6 million patacas (US$325,000)
to the organization in Macau on Thursday. He expressed his hope that the money
would assist those affected by the devastating earthquake and tsunami across
Asia. Meanwhile, the fund-raising by the academic circle was also efficient,
which went up to 2 million patacas (US$250,000).
