China has donated more than 1 billion yuan (about 122 million US dollars) to
the tsunami-hit countries so far, said Foreign Ministry spokesman Kong Quan here
Tuesday.
Among the donation, more than 700 million yuan (85.4 million USdollars) was
from the Chinese government and about 374 million yuan (45.6 million US dollars)
was from the general public, said Kong at a regular news briefing.
Half of the donations will reach the tsunami-affected countriesby the end of
this month, he added.
Besides financial aid, China has also dispatched medicare and rescue teams to
the tsunami-hit countries, said Kong. The State Seismological Bureau has sent 69
people in two teams to Indonesia's Banda Aceh to help treat patients and rebuild
hospitals. The Health Ministry has sent three groups to Indonesia, Thailand and
Sri Lanka, and the fourth group left here Tuesday for Banda
Aceh.
