Sri Lanakn tourism set for early recovery: WTO
4/2/2005 15:09

Sri Lanka's tourism sector battered by tsunami is already on course for an early recovery, Official Daily News quoted a visiting official of the WTO as saying on Friday.
"Recovery is already on the way and it is coming faster than expected," the WTO Secretary General Francesco Frangialli said at the Tourism Ministry on Thursday.
He said: "I have seen that many development plans are taking place. Sri Lanka's recovery pace of its tourism sector is faster than the other tsunami affected countries and is a good bet as safety destination as well."
Commenting on the buffer zone issue, he said: "It is always wise to learn lessons from previous crises. It is necessary to act in a stable way and minimize the damage and implementation of the 100 meter Buffer zone is vital at this point."
He also urged those affected not to rebuild anything close to the sea and stressed that the decision aims to boost the tourism sector in the country.
