Thousands of bodies in some places of Indonesia's Aceh province have not
been removed for burial due to difficult circumstances, still lying under large
fallen trees or rubble.
The untouched bodies are in Banda Aceh, the capital city of theprovince, and
some districts of Aceh Besar and Pidie. The corpses have stated decomposing and
produced a strong stench and some of them have been dismembered.
In Pidie district, some 120 kilometers southeast of Banda Aceh,many bodies
have not been removed. A similar situation can been seen in Aceh Jaya and West
Aceh districts.
"I don't blame anybody, but the volunteers should speed up the removal of the
bodies," Yusra, one of the surviving residents of Lampulo Baru village, was
quoted by the daily Jakarta Post as saying on Tuesday.
The Indonesian health ministry said that at least 95,000 peoplewere killed
and 1,375 people still missing in the province after apowerful earthquake and
the subsequent tsunamis hit the province on Dec. 26, 2004.
