Susilo asks ministers to follow up moratorium debt offers

Indonesian President Susilo Bamabang Yudhoyono asked ministers to immediately follow up offers of moratorium debt from foreign countries, due to humanity reason for people in Aceh province, the finance minister said.

Talking to the press after a cabinet meeting on the natural disaster in Aceh province at the State Palace, Finance Minister Jusuf Anwar said that at least there would be debt rescheduling through the donor countries at Paris Club.

Anwar, who was quoted by the Bisnis Indonesia daily on Tuesday said that the government had set up a task force to carry out the work and appointed Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda to conduct diplomacy.

National Development Planning Board Minister Sri Mulyani said that the government welcomes any country offering rescheduling or moratorium debts.

Secretary General of Paris Club Emmanuel Moulin said that Indonesia along with other countries suffering from tsunami disaster were possible to get debt relief in the form of moratorium debt.

Four countries including Germany, the United States, Italy and France have committed to support moratorium debt for countries suffering from the tsunami disaster.

President Susilo would lead a summit on tsunami disaster in Jakarta on Jan. 6, which would be attended by a number of world leaders.
