6/1/2005 10:27

International community is continuing to provide aids for tsunami-hit Asian countries as the United Nations says global pledged aids will hit 4 billion US dollars.

Germany has decided to increase its aids to 500 million euros or 664 million US dollars. Australia and Greece have also pledged to increase their material aids. Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia have offered their donations to neighboring countries.

On Wednesday, the relief material from Russia and Malaysia arrived in Indonesia. Turkey continued to send assistant groups to Thailand, Indonesia and Sri Lanka. Afghanistan also decided to dispatch 12 doctors to India and Sri Lanka and provided the two countries with medicine and material.

Malaysia not only agrees to take part in the UN food aid plan in Aceh, Indonesia, but also in principle allows the United States to use its airports when transporting relief to Aech.

In addition, Italian government has voiced its support to exempt those disaster-hit countries from debts. Spanish government also suggested tsunami-stricken countries could postpone paying their due debts. Enditem
