Nepal provides relief aid to Sri Lanka

The Nepali government has decided to provide US$100,000 to Sri Lanka after
the tsunamis brought on by underwater earthquake off Indonesia devastated Sri
Lanka and several other countries. The decision to this effect was taken
during a cabinet meeting on Monday, Radio Nepal on Tuesday quoted Chief
Secretary Bimal Prasad Koirala as saying. Meanwhile, Nepali King Gyanendra
and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba have expressed sorrow over the loss of
lives and property in some South and South East Asian countries, including
India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Indonesia, Thailand and
Malaysia. Nearly 12,000 people have been killed and hundreds of thousands of
others affected by the tidal waves in Sri Lanka alone. At least six Nepalese
citizens have been reported missing in Phuket, a popular tourist spot in
Thailand, during the devastating tsunami on Sunday, said Yadav Khanal, charge
d'affaires at the Nepali Embassy to Thailand.
