A Hungarian government plane left for Thailand and Sri Lanka on Tuesday,
carrying 10 doctors and medical supplies for victims of Sunday's killer
earthquake and tidal waves in southern Asia. The medical supplies could total
over 70 million forint (about US$388,888) in value. The plane, a charter
flight of the Hungarian national airline Malev, will also take back injured and
frightened tourists from the tsunami-stricken countries. It was reported that
more than 400 Hungarians, mainly tourists, were in the region when a massive
earthquake struck the Indonesian island of Sumatra on Sunday, triggering tidal
waves that killed tens of thousands across Southeast and South Asia.
