Mexico will donate US$100,000 for relief efforts South and Southeast Asian
countries that were struck by an 8.7-magnitude earthquake and subsequent
tsunamis, a leading newspaper Thursday quoted a senior foreign ministry official
as saying. Julian Venturam, general director for Asia-Pacific of the foreign
Ministry, also rejected accusations by the opposition which complains about a
late support of the government for the Mexicans who are in the disaster-hit
Asian countries, the El Universal daily reported. Meanwhile, the Mexico City
government announced Thursday it had sent a rescue team to search for survivors
and bodies in the debris in the affected zones. The death toll from the
massive tsunamis in South and Southeast Asian countries has risen to over
115,000.
