French Health Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy arrived Monday in the Sri Lankan
capital of Colombo with 15 tons of medicine and other medical supplies, French
TF1 television reported.
He visited wounded children in the hospital of Colombo after his arrival. He
had said that he would prepare coordination between hospitals immediately after
his return to Paris on Tuesdayevening in order to mobilize some medical teams to
be sent to the stricken region.
The French medical missions were to stay there during two or three months,
because after the catastrophe, will come the epidemic and alimentary shortage in
the stricken countries.
Tsunamis triggered by a series of underwater earthquakes on Dec.26 hit India,
Sri Lanka, Malaysia and four other Asian countries, killing at least 145,000
people, including 30,000 in Sri Lanka.
