Pakistan sends relief assistance to Tsunami-affected Indonesia

Pakistan Monday despatched a taskforce to set up a field hospital for Tsunami affectees in the Southeast Asian state of Indonesia.

The army engineers are also part of the more than 200 members' team that includes Pakistan Army doctors and paramedics, and will help in removal of debris, construction of makeshift shelters and other evacuation efforts, Pakistani military Spokesman Shaukat Sultan Monday told media before seeing off the relief assistance batch in Rawalpindi, the twin city of Islamabad.

Two C-130 transport aircraft will leave for Indonesia on Mondayand total deployment will be made through six sorties in a week's time, the spokesman said.

The task force assigned for Indonesia comprises 165 persons of Pakistan Army Engineers, Military Engineering Services and 57 Pakistan Army doctors and paramedics staff, he said.

The task force will set up 50-bed hospital in the affected area,which will provide treatment, minor surgery and other basic requirement and the heavy equipment will be shipped by Pakistan Navy, Sultan said.

The spokesman said the task force has enough logistic support to carry out relief operation for about a month.

Similar assistance is also being sent to Sri Lanka, the second most severely hit country by the disaster with nearly 30,000 fatalities, he said.

Two Pakistani navy ships are already in Maldives, another Tsunami-hit country, and evacuated 350 civilians, he added.

No other requests have been received from other affected countries, he added.
